NSC's Auditions for Jerry Springer: The Opera - March 2-10, 2008

New Stage Collective announces casting for its regional premiere production of Jerry Springer: The Opera, directed by NSC Producing Artistic Director Alan Patrick Kenny.

When does the show run?
The production begins rehearsals May 5 and runs June 26-August 3, with a possible extension through August 24. All positions are paid.

When and where are auditions?
NSC will be holding open auditions for Jerry Springer: The Opera on March 2, 3, and 10, 2008 at NSC's performance space at 1140 Main St., Cincinnati, OH 45202.

Auditions will be held by individual appointment Sunday, March 2 from 7-10pm, Monday, March 3 and Monday, March 10 from 4-10pm, with callbacks sessions held for various roles on March 4 and 10. Walk-up applicants will only be seen if time allows.

What if I can't make the audition dates?
If you are unable to attend the auditions, NSC will schedule private audition appointments as time allows. Under certain circumstances, NSC will also accept video auditions. For more information, contact auditions@newstagecollective.com or call Erica at 513.621.3700 ext. 0#.

What are the audition requirements?
If you would like to be considered for a singing role, please prepare either 1 song or 2 short contrasting songs that show off your voice. If you would like to be considered for one of the few, male-only non-singing roles, please prepare 1 short monologue.

An accompanist will be provided - please bring clearly marked sheet music in the correct key.

The score to Jerry Springer: The Opera runs the gamut of musical styles. It could be described as 50% Opera/Classical Legit singing, 20% standard Musical Theatre-style singing, and 30% Rock Opera (think Jesus Christ Superstar for the guys and High Belting/Pop-Mix for the girls). Please keep this in mind when choosing your audition selections.

SHOW CONTENT NOTE:
Jerry Springer: The Opera is a hard-driving satire that combines Opera and Musical Theater and features larger-than-life personalities. This multiple award-winning show contains all of the content that you would normally find on an episode of the Jerry Springer Show, set to the sweeping music and emotional heights of grand opera.

This content includes a plethora of profanity and objectionable subject matter a la the Springer Show (including an appearance by the Ku Klux Klan, who tap-dances), and in Act II several portrayals of religious figures that some people might find offensive.

Although the show is boldly satiric, it's held together by presenting these characters unflinchingly and with a sense of dignity. We're looking for mature actors and singers who are comfortable with the content and can bring it to life in a bold, honest, and uncondescending way.

Do I need to bring anything to the audition?
If possible, please bring a resume and headshot with you for the audition panel, as well as your calendar so you can let us know of any major conflicts you might have. Please try to arrive at least 15 minutes before your scheduled time to fill out paperwork.
